Here’s a few Norman Blake tunes (or tunes he plays) that I’ve learned over the years. He’s one of my favorites, a national treasure.
I attended the RockyGrass Academy and festival for quite a few years before it got crazy with lotteries, etc. One year, Ronnie McCoury was teaching mando and I came back to the instruction tent early after lunch. I found Norman Blake sitting in a lawn chair playing an old blackface 3 point Gibson with the rope binding. Ronnie McCoury was literally sitting at his feet and Norman was playing tunes for him. I whipped out my recorder and captured part of it. That’s Ronnie asking, “What’s the name of that one, Norman?” after each tune.
